@8kittens you won't lose your landline with Sky unless you cancel or switch to another provider.
The way the landline service is provided will change, however, in due course. So far as I'm aware, Sky hasn't published a timetable for doing this, and you'll be advised in advance.
When it changes, you'll plug your phone into your broadband Hub instead of the wall socket. That aside, your landline servive and charges will remain as now..

Re: When will i lose my land line on sky and will i keep my broad band
In the following sky help page.....
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/about-internet-calls.
...there is a section entitled " Are you closing traditional talk by January 2027?"
In it sky say "Openreach are planning to remove their traditional talk equipment by January 2027 BUT WE ARE NOT."
It also implies traditional talk will continue beyond this date if you have sky talk on sky broadband. Including I presume traditional landlines.
Is my interpretation of this section correct or have I got this wrong?

@Cocosat2 it's not very clear, but really it doesn't make any difference. Whether or not the old telephone hardware is removed, the phone system will either way be provided via the internet by 2027 - which means a phone handset will have to be plugged into a Sky broadband Hub, not the wall socket.

Re: When will i lose my land line on sky and will i keep my broad band
Thanks @Mark39 but I think it may make a difference to me as I am on the original sky fibre but pay £0 for it. Yes really!
(Many years ago I took up an offer of free broadband if I continued with sky sports and it's still running! I only pay about £19/month for landline).
Sky want me to change to modern broadband with VoIP but want me to pay about £46 for it.
I would happily change to VoIP but they won't at present give it to me on the old original sky fibre.
I would be interested to know if there is a technical reason for this as I have a modern hub. Would any of the moderators know?
Thanks.

Re: When will i lose my land line on sky and will i keep my broad band
@Cocosat2 that's an arrangement I've not heard of before! I assume your landline service is via the original copper telephone line? That's scheduled to be switched off by January 2027, so at some point between and then, you'll have to be switched to Sky VoIP with calls being routed via your broadband Hub.
If your Hub has a telephone port on the rear panel it's already suitable for Sky VoIP. I don't know of any other technical reason why your existing fibre connection couldn't be used, subject to your telephone service being switched to it by Openreach.

Re: When will i lose my land line on sky and will i keep my broad band
Thanks again @Mark39 .
My understanding is currently the same as your comments above.
However what exactly does the sky help article mean by "Openreach are removing their traditional talk equipment by Jan 27 but we are not!!!
And also they say "traditional talk will only be removed by Jan 27 if your sky talk is not provided on the sky network ". These comments both imply traditional talk will continue. Can anyone explain exactly what sky mean by this.
PS I took up that offer in August 2016.

Re: When will i lose my land line on sky and will i keep my broad band
Rereading that very poorly composed page, I wonder if they actually mean before January 2027 (ie in advance of the scheduled date for national PSTN switch-off*)
*which I strongly suspect will slip again over the next year.
