What phone for VOIP new Sky fibre install

Can anyone please offer some advice.

We are currently on Sky copper (fibre to cabinet) for both broadband and 24/7 telephone (sky talk anytime extra?).

We are having a new install of Sky full fibre this week.

 

I am confused as to what phones work with the new system? I thought it was VOIP and we would need to buy a VOIP phone . But a search online suggested I may be wrong - I don't fully understand it.

 

Can anyone please give a technical answer as to what phones work.

In particular we currently have a BT2200 phone. Will that work?

 

Final question. We asked to keep our current number. Do I need to make sure the engineer does that or will it be automatic?

@greenbike a VOIP phone definitely won't work. Any fairly recent standard corded or cordless phone should be ok. Your BT2200 should be fine.

 

I'm doubtful that you'll be able to keep your number, I'm afraid

@greenbike a VOIP phone definitely won't work. Any fairly recent standard corded or cordless phone should be ok. Your BT2200 should be fine.

All you can do is tell Sky that you want to retain the number.  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. It would be most welcome if you have a moment after the event to tell us whether or not you were successful.

 

By the way, it's not uncommon for activation of the phone service to take a couple of days to complete, so it may not work initially.
