Sky failed to port landline number

We recently changed broadband provider from Zen Internet to Sky and asked for our landline number to remain the same - a number that we've had for 49 years. On doing the transfer Sky omitted to apply for our number, a fault they've admitted to, assigning us a new number that we don't want! Their only solution to get our number back -cancel our contract, and then reconnect with a new contract which could leave us without internet services for up to seven days, which quite honestly is unacceptable when the fault is clearly theirs. We are pensioners,  we rely on our internet for all our TV (we have Sky Glass and therefore only streaming services), our Hive heating, hot water and lights, our Ring doorbell and our CCTV. We have rung Sky on numerous occasions now to try and resolve this issue but to no avail. The only reason we originally changed from our original Sky broadband to Zen was because Cityfibre locked their wiring into Vodafone, only recently releasing for Sky use - quite honestly I wish I'd never bothered returning to Sky for our BB/Talk services! Anybody have any ideas on how to resolve this with Sky?

I suspect Sky have no other practical way of retrieving your number.

Re: Sky failed to port landline number

  • So we've gone down the cancellation/reinstatement route, and guess what, it hasn't worked! Sky apparently still can't get the number, so I'm currently without BB while I await the new activation date, which was originally 30th, but is now after a long discussion about the inability to port my number, the 21st. I tried to then cancel the SkyTalk but you cannot have the BB without it. Why when a lot of people no longer bother with a landline phone? It's will be on PAYG so won't be costing us anything as we won't even bother to plug the phone in -pointless as
  • no one will know our new number! I have tried also to get in touch with OFCOM about this to no avail. So currently fed up and definitely not recommending Sky to anyone anytime soon.
