Sky VOIP service and using a Nortel Networks NTDU91 phone in the home

Hi,

I'm trying to integrate a Nortel Networks NTDU91 IP phone to use in the home. I have done some reading and it seems that you can use these in the home despite there being speculation that you can't.

I've tried setting up the phone with a specific ip 198.168.0.11, adding that address with the MAC address of the phone into the router but it's still not having it. It keeps on showing "DHCP PARSE ERROR". I've followed Nortel specific phone setup instructions and still this isn't doing it.

Have I got to ask Sky to do something with the DHCP server or to add a different service to the line?

It's strange because the Sky engineer stated the line is now a VOIP line as is the BT line the router goes through - so what is the problem? The phone? The BT line needing an addition service or the Sky router needing something?

Help please.

@Delta990  Yes the phone line is now VOIP, but you just plug in your normal phone into the back of the router as shown in the picture below.

@Delta990 Sky isn't a native VOIP provider. The only access to Sky VOIP is through the ATA within the Hub via,the telephone port, as @Highlinder posted. You can, of course, sign up with a separate VOIP provider and use your IP phone to connect via Sky's broadband service.

That's a 'system phone' intended for a managed office environment where a dedicated server (or sophisticated router) can provision the handset with the configuration it needs to operate.  One clue is the eyewateringly ugly black plastic which only a large business or public sector organisation would choose to inflict on its workers ; )

Platform compatibility:

  • Communication Server 1000
  • Meridian 1
  • Business Communications Manager 50/200/400
  • Survivable Remote Gateway (SRG) 50/200/400
  • Multimedia Communication Server 5100
  • Multimedia Communication Server 5200
  • Application Server 5200
  • Communication Server 2000
  • Communication Server 2100
  • Media Gateway 1000B Expansion Chassis

Incidentally, Nortel themselves have spent the past fifteen years in various stages of bankruptcy, and nearly took the Canadian economy down with them...
