Retaining landline number during move from Now to Sky

I have spent hours on the phone to Sky trying to help my parents who want to take up a sky package and move from Now. They have had the same landline for over 50 years and have been told that because Now is now part of Sky that's not possible and they need to take a new number. 
If they'd been with any other provider they could keep their number but because it's now a Now number they can't! 
It's so impractical and unreasonable for their age group to do this (doctor appointments, opticians, family, friends etc) and I can't see how this is treating the customer fairly or giving a reasonable treatment for their requirements. 
There must be some sort of exception for vulnerable customers surely? I'm going round in circles and just want this escalated and supported by an organisation such as Sky. Any help greatly appreciated - so stressful!

If it's vital for your parents to keep their landline number, it would be best for them not to switch to Sky.

Not if the problem is technical rather than administrative.

As now tv is owned and supplied by sky there is no way to transfer the number when switching to a VoIP based service

Thank you - that's what we keep being told.. if she were to move to another provider other than Now and Sky (eg BT) and then move to Sky, could she keep her number do u know? Thank you. 👍🏻

Yeah that is possible to do within the cooling off period after the service is activated
