Landline not working but broadband OK

I have had to unplug my phone as it rings constantly but nobody is ringing me I just get a engaged tone when I answer and as sn as I put the receiver down, it rings again and the same thing happens.  I have also had people saying they are trying to get me but they get a message that the number is unobtainable.
