Need to keep my Landline number but sky lost it

A family member was cancellling their account with but we wanted to keep the landline number so we opened another account with sky with a different member making it clear to keep the landline number the same as we have vunerable lederly parents and the landline is how people get in contact with them. Sky said they could keep it and tranfer it over but when the cancellation day came they said they can do no such thing and now the number is in the pool so theres no gurantee we can get this number back i have rang bt and they have said there is 50/50 chance? does anyone have any other solutions?

So far as I'm aware, Sky can only try to keep your number if an active line takeover is carried out - where Sky take over a line which is already active.

They can't do so where the active line is cancelled and new service is provisioned, which if I've understood your post correctly is what has happened here.

BT is simply another provider, like Sky, TalkTalk etc, and their processes and procedures may well be different.
