In most cases they should have no reason not to port your number, but they just ignore the request. IT failure or incompetence. They must improve.
I got mine back after fighting with 15 agents, 3-4 hours wasted and without Internet for ~2 weeks.
Cancel and re-order with the port-in request clearly explained (most agents I spoke to don't get it; majority don't live in the UK). The on-line checkbox to 'keep your number' does not work.
