My mother in law is unable to dial out, it says line in use sometimes but not all and asks to check the line - incoming call has a lot of interference when does get through and phone has been ringing in the night. Broadband also appears not to be working.

Does the wall socket have separate ports for broadband and phone, or just one port?
If it's a single port, is the phone plugged into a microfilter?
