Moving house: how do I keep the landline number for the property?

I am currently living in a flat and use Sky for phone, TV and internet. Soon I will be moving into my family home as my mother is going into residential care.

I want to transfer my Sky package to the family home. However, I also want to keep the landline number for the family home (currently registered with Virgin) as it is. I do NOT want to keep my current Sky number from the flat and transfer it to the home; I want to keep the Virgin number for the home and port it over to Sky.

How do I go about doing this?

You could check with Sky, but I don't think there's any way Sky can take over the Virgin line without either porting your existing phone number or assigning a new number.

How do you get them to port the existing landline number from virgin to sky?

The Virgin accountholder (your mother?) would have to switch to Sky's broadband/Talk (landline) service. Even then, keeping the number isn't always possible.

Thanks for the assistance. Sounds like if I want to keep the existing landline number for the house I would have to keep using Virgin and cancel Sky altogether. Is that correct?

If I was in your position, and keeping the existing phone number was essential, then yes, that's what I would do - but as I mentioned before, you might want to check this out with Sky.

There may be early termination charges to pay if you cancel while you're in contract with Sky.
