Moved from BT Broadband and was told you can keep your landline number

Transerred from BT broadband, asked if I could keep my telephone number told yes but not told all calls would be costed even local calls.

Is there a solution to switch to a Sky e-mail address from my bt e-mail address. Do I need to cancel my telephone number with BT? With BT my local calls were free!!

Did you ask or check, or did you just assume that Sky's landline service would be the same as BT's?

There's actually no such thing as a local call with Sky and most other providers. It will be the case with BT as well, when the analogue phone service is turned off in 2025. All calls are national calls, even within the same dial code area. I guess you're on Sky's Pay as you Talk package, with which every call is charged. Sky do have several call packages which , for a monthly subscription allows inclusive calls at various times. It may be worth you considering one of them, if you make regular use of your landline phone.

Sky no longer provide email account to new customers, I'm afraid, but you should be able to keep your BT email address providing you access it regularly.

As far as I can tell the distinction between a 'local' and 'national' call ceased about two decades ago.

It's possible you were on a (legacy) BT bundle where 'local' calls were inclusive.
