Landline tone for 30 seconds and disappears no dial tone help!

Sky Ultrafast Broadband Contract with internet call bundle. Contract for over 4 months 

• Plugged my corded analog phone into the Sky Hub Router in the phone socket (as per instruction)
• There is a dial tone for about 4 seconds, then it disappears, the phone starts beeping like an alert tone so have to unplug. 

Anybody else experiencing this?

• Troubleshooted with following 1) rebooting router (power off/on) 2) All lights are green including internet / voice 3) All lights at master socket is on too 4) Telephone plugged into the phone socket as per instructions

Help!?

@Agentmokkers  To rule out the phone are you able to use a different one to see if the same thing happens?

Turns out you can't plug in an old fashioned corded analog landline phone. I bought a new cordless phone and it did the trick.
