Landline phone not working - line cord error appears? Line 'engaged' when calling the number?

Line cord error. Have replaced the wiring to the phone using Sky equipment but still 'line cord error' appears?

You mean the cable from outside as far as the master phone socket indoors? That's all Openreach and Sky are responsible for.

@Splodge11

You should be able to run a telephone line test using this link

https://www.sky.com/help/home/broadband/my-broadband-speed/no-connection-slow-wifi/articles/broadban...

If the test detects a fault on the line, you may be able to arrange for an Openreach engineer to be booked without the need to call Sky.

Sky talk - line chord error

On 06/12/22 Sky confirmed that I had a problem on phone line (a generic 'line chord error' message).

On 08/12/22 Out Reach came (after Sky raised a fault) and advised of two line problems - internal and external.  The external, from the road to the property, was replaced.

However Out Reach advised that Sky had only paid Out Reach for the external fault - not the internal line chord error message.

Now back to square one!

@Mark39   Thanks for that.  Would Open Reach, as far as you know, attend to this internal failure if I contracted them?

You can't contact Openreach yourself - their customers are the service providers like Sky, BT, TalkTalk etc. Am I right in thinking that it's the cable to an extension socket that is the problem? That's a householder's responsibility, but I'm not sure whether a Sky engineer would take a look for you. I'd suggest giving them a call.

An alternative might be to invest in a cordless phone (they're not very expensive). You could then plug the base station in the master phone socket, but place the handset wherever it's convenient - perhaps near the socket where your phone is currently plugged in?
