(Ireland) Switching to Sky BB + Sky Talk when currently using FTTH with copper-based landline

Hi. We are in Ireland, currently using FTTH broadband with a landline still running on the old copper telephone line, both with eir. If we swtich to Sky BB with Sky Talk, will the old phoneline still remain active for the landline, or will it be deactivate and switch to using the broadband modem as the landline source?

I can see from other topics that UK is already using the modem, but it seems to be further along in switching over from the copper line to fibre than Ireland, so just wondering if Sky does the same here.

Yes, in the UK, if you switch to Sky you get internet calls as a matter of course and the old copper line becomes redundant. I'm really not sure either whether the same applies to the Eir network, so probably best to check with Sky Ireland.

We can ask Sky's messaging team to contact you here so that you can ask via a private online chat, if you wish. The chat will start with the UK messaging team and be handed off to the Sky Ireland team, so it might be a bit more protracted.

It's inevitable that the Republic will eventually switch off PSTN, but apparently no date has been announced despite ComReg having a roadmap for the process.  In the UK it hasn't been possible for ISPs to order wholesale analogue service since late 2023 and the target for completion is now January 2027 (postponed from December 2025)
