Intermittent fault with caller ID not reporting number

As title.

Caller ID on a copper connected line sometimes fails to identify the incoming call number & associated name tag.

Yet sometimes it displays correctly.

Friends & family not withholding there numbers / calls from mobiles & landlines are affected, just random loss of the incoming ID on incoming calls.

It dose seem to be more of an occurrence now than it used to be.

The issue has been going on for some time,

but with the need to replace our Dect phones recently, I can rule the actual phone as the cause, as the same intermitten fault is present.

Anyone any ideas?

TIA

I am having the same problem.  Bought a new Panasonic dect phone and caller ID is now intermittent.  Very disappointed.

Typo in OP

The need to replace our Dect phones recently, I can rule out  actual phone as the cause, as the same intermitten fault is present.

@jewers I always thought it was a sky issue, but only confirmed when I swapped my Dect phone out.

At least I know I'm not the only one affected.

Re: Intermittent fault with caller ID not reporting number

I have seen a couple of other messages over the past few months complaining about loss of Caller ID.  When I was with BT is was fine and then the problem appeared when I moved over to Sky.

@TomThumb5ive

I lost Caller I.D. function 2-3 years ago. There had been no recent changes of any kind. Reported to Sky and sorted by Openreach within a day or two without having to come to the address so presumably an issue at the exchange or green cabinet.

@Daniel0210  Cheers for the info.
A possible easy fix then.

Re: Intermittent fault with caller ID not reporting number

@TomThumb5ive I telephoned Sky this morning but did not make any progress with the intermittent  caller display.   I would really like OpenReach to look into this but all I was told was that my line test showed no faults.  I would be most grateful if you could let me know if this problem gets resolved for you.  Many thanks for your help.

Re: Intermittent fault with caller ID not reporting number

@jewers  With the rollout of fttp in the local area & hopefully going live soon, I'm holding off reporting this caller ID error to sky for now.

The anticipated move over to a digital line (voip) should resolve the annoyance I've had with caller ID in the past. But will update accordingly.

 I'm not much help, but at least you know you're not the only one experiencing this annoying fault.

Re: Intermittent fault with caller ID not reporting number

@TomThumb5ive Hi Tom.  Many thanks for getting back.  It would be great if you could let me know if VOIP solves this problem when you get it.  I think I am going to have a longer wait as no mention of it here.  As you say, at least I am not the only one whose caller display is not working as it should.
