I NEED A SKY ENGINEER URGENTLY!

I have damaged telephone wires coming into the house that are a fire hazard, the junction box is damaged and the wires are exposed. Sky know this and said I need a BT engineer to fix them BUT I have spoken to BT and Openreach and it is Sky that are responsible for fixing my cables and responsible for contacting openreach engineers as the public cannot contact them direct.

I have been trying to get this sorted for months, Openreach said that Sky are passing the buck and it is Sky's responsibility!

Sky is now impossible to contact, how do I get Sky to contact Openreach as they said they would about 7 months ago and still they haven't, and still they leave the damaged wires open to the elements of the great British weather and put my life and my house at risk from fire, what in Gods name do you have to do to get Sky to take responsibility and make that phone call to Openreach?????

I have been with Sky for over 25 years and they won't make one phone call to Openreach!!!!

I'm afraid you've been advised incorrectly. Openreach are responsible for the phone line from the exchange right through to the master phone socket within your home. If  the cable is damaged anywhere up to the master phone socket, Sky aren't allowed to touch it, as it's Openreach's property - not Sky's, or BT's or yours.

You can report the problem to Sky (call them on 150). However, if your phone is still working OK, Openreach may refuse to do anything until there's a fault. The fire risk is practically non-existent as the cable passes very little power.

@QueenieLady  Just to add any appointment made won't be classed as urgent as on domestic lines this really doesn't exist due to SLA's set by Openreach..

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

@QueenieLady

As @Mark39 observes, the DC current carried by a copper telephone cable is negligible (around 48V with very low amperage) and carries no risk of fire: if it gets wet the main risk is the handset stops workin

You'll need to persist with Sky to book Openreach (not 'BT'): I'd suggest reporting an intermittent line fault.

Thanks for that, but it is Sky that need to ring Openreach as they are the only ones that can make the booking, Openreach do not accept calls from the public to book an engineer, only calls and bookings from the network supplier.

When the Sky engineer came to my house he said he would contact Openreach but he didn't and that is what they need to do!

Thanks for your reply.

How do I contact Sky to report the fault is it 150 and then which options as I keep getting to a dead end and no person to speak with?

Thanks 🙏

Re: I NEED A SKY ENGINEER URGENTLY!

Oh my goodness, I just got very lucky and spoke to a lovely Bulgarian man in Bulgaria from Sky who booked an Openreach engineer to come to my house this week!

I am so happy after months and hours of trying to achieve this PLUS what a coincidence, I want to retire to Bulgaria and we spoke about this too...fantastic!

Thank you all for your replies, gave me the strength to start the call process again and this time it worked!

Hopefully Openreach will be able to sort it out promptly for you.

The Sky engineer was misguided in his view about a fire risk (I do sometimes wonder......)
