Are you new to Sky broadband/Talk? Or recently switched? If so, your phone needs to be plugged into the socket at the back of your broadband Hub. It won't work from a wall socket.
You don't need a special phone. A standard analogue phone will be fine.
If you don't have a call package, such as Talk Anytime+ you'll be charged for every call you make at an unpleasantly high rate. Fine if you just make the occasional call.
