Family member's mobile keeps calling land line every two minutes

My father-in-law's mobile phone keeps calling my land line even when his mobile is switched off completely!  I have unplugged everything and re-connected and the problem persists.  He is not using his mobile but it keeps calling at two minute intervals!  This is NOT a case of blocking unwanted numbers - there is clearly a major problem with the land line and Sky aren't interested (they have closed my case without doing anything).  Our land line is unusable and has had to remain unplugged for days to stop the incessant ringing, supposedly from my father-in-law's phone, but actually not from it (he lives with us so we know he's not ringing us every two minutes!).

Just out of interest what, if anything, happens when you answer one of these calls? Are the calls registering on his mobile?

So far as I'm aware, landlines are passive and can't by themselves generate incoming calls. They just react to actual calls routed through them. Accordingly I don't see how this can be  a fault with your Sky landline which is probably why Sky have closed your case. Certainly I've never seen previous reports here of this happening.

 

What has your father in law's mobile provider said about it?

In addition have you asked your father in law to make a call to your landline, you answer it, have a short conversation, he ends the call and then see if the problem continues.

We have tried answering - there is no-one there.  The calls are not being generated by the mobile as it is switched off completely and the calls still come in like clockwork every couple of minutes or so.  The mobile cannot be generating the calls - it's as if the land line system is recalling the last genuine call made (which was from that mobile) and repeating it somehow on a loop.  I have seen another thread on this forum which looked similar, about an unknown mobile calling a land line every few minutes.  We have not approached Lebara (the mobile provider) as the mobile cannot be generating the calls when turned off.

Presumably they checked the line and found no fault?

@deepgreen have you tried calling yor landline number from a different phone or mobile to see if the same happens from that number

@deepgreen as you've already spoken to Sky to no avail, Lebara would seem to be your next step.

Just called my land line from my mobile (also Lebara).  My number showed initially on that call but within 1 second it changed to show my father-in-law's number.  Again, my father-in-law's mobile is completely switched off at the moment so can have no effect on incoming calls!  I will raise it with Sky again as it is certainly a land line issue.

I have exactly the same issue. My son phoned from his mobile. Now the land line rings every few seconds with his number as the caller. He is not calling. Landline is now unplugged. I will try calling rom my mobile as suggested

Raised a second fault with Sky and this time they bothered to act on it.   Land line now working fine again, but we weren't informed when it had been fixed - I only found out by plugging it in again and it worked.  Perhaps Sky don't inform customers when a fault has been fxed but it would be useful to know!  My strong suspicion that it could only be the land line was correct, so anyone else experiencing the same issue (and I have seen several such reports) should take note.
