I need broadband for my mobile phone , but I rarely use my landline and do I really need to have a landline?

Terrestrial broadband requires a data bearer cable: that's either a copper 'phone line' or an optical circuit. Without this, data from a traditional ISP cannot reach your address.
What you don't need to have is a subscription voice call service : the default Sky Talk Internet Calls has no additional cost as long as no outbound connections are made over the 'landline' (which really isn't any such thing these days)
Alternatively, just get a cellular service with a generous data allowance and use that, although terrestrial broadband is likely to be faster than anything other than 5G.
