Distributing VOIP to cabled phones in separate rooms.

I'm looking for clarification with the change to VOIP. I understand the phone needs to be plugged into the router but can this output be plugged directly back into the telephone circuit or would i need a seperate circuit isolated from the master socket?

Sky wouldn't support such an arrangement, so there's no official position on it. A supported solution would be to use a wireless DECT phone with as many handsets as you need.

I appreciate that is what is suggested but it is simply not convenient to have both the router and phone's base station in the same room. Plus we have cabled phones in other rooms. Has there really been no retrofit soloutions suggested by anyone in the VOIP switchover initiative?

Not by Sky. Have a look at 'voice re-injection faceplates' - but again, they're not supported by Sky.

@doby_p

Searching 'voice re-injection' should reveal the website of a famously independent-minded ISP with thoughts on faceplate modification: note that the legality of messing with an Openreach master is dubious, particularly if the property is supplied with SoGEA FTTC and so the external copper is still 'live'

As @Mark39 indicates, telecoms industry literature shows a dedicated Openreach VRI faceplate was at least mocked-up, but it's unclear if this was ever actually manufactured.
