Attempting to port existing Sky Talk number over to Vonage

Hi there,

A few months ago, I moved to Sky from BT and on to the Sky Gigabit FTTP package. As part of that move, my existing 'landline number' was ported over to Sky Talk.

Since then I haven't been too impressed with the supplied Sky hub, so I've  ended up picking up a third party router (Asus AX6600) and I am using that instead.

However, while I myself have no need for a 'landline', the wife feels otherwise! I obviously couldn't continue to use Sky Voice with the new router, as I understand it needs to be connected to the Sky hub to work, so I ordered a new VOIP package with Vonage instead.

I'm really happy with Vonage so far, but I also wanted to port our existing 'number' over to them to make life easier. When I submitted the port request, everything looked good, but now I've received an e-mail from Sky confirming that both my FTTP and Talk will be terminated on the move date.

I obviously want to keep my fibre with Sky and only want the 'number' moved, but from what I've read here since, it looks like Sky can't do that as the Sky Talk service is bundled with the broadband service, so both have to be cancelled.

Is this correct, or has anyone been successful in porting their existing Sky Talk number to another VOIP provider and retaining their FTTP with Sky?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Bear in mind that Sky are foremost a landline service provider rather than a native VOIP provider as Vonage are. To my knowledge they can only port a number to or from themselves as part of  a complete switch of landline/broadband service provider.

Re: Attempting to port existing Sky Talk number over to Vonage

Thanks @Mark39. Yes, sorry, I should have said 'to a VOIP provider' as opposed to 'another VOIP provider'. I take your point that Sky are different to Vonage.

I'm assuming then that what I am trying to do can't be done at this stage, so the only other option would be to enable call divert and pay the monthly fee, plus any call charges (since I am on Pay as You Talk) to divert to the new Vonage number?
