Are openreach ever going to come and fix my landline

Reported my landline fault and was give a day and time , between 1-6pm  for openreach to come out . Phoned sky just after 6pm to ask where the engineer was . After almost 50 minutes , mostly on hold , was told that openreach were actually working on the problem at the time and didn't need access to my property after all . (Nice if I hadn't waited in all afternoon)

Now 24 hours later my landline has still NOT been fixed . I know its openreach at fault but do sky not check that repairs have actually been done ?  Really not happy about sitting waiting on somebody supposedly coming out for 48 hours already .

This is a common problem and indeed complaint with Openreach.

its part of the reason OFCOM the regulator for the industry forced BT and OpenRewch to split into 2 separate companies as they were historically providing a better and higher priority service for BT above the rest of their customers using their infrastructure.

unfortunately it hasn't really solved the problem as OpenReach still offer a more service to the other broadband companies and don't make it easy for the customers of these companies to get accurate and regular updates.

The Openreach Monitoring Unit within Ofcom would be very unhappy to hear that, and potentially interested in related evidence.

On the whole, Openreach does a pretty good job of annoying everyone.

Yeah it’s just what happens when key public infrastructure is privatised.

Private companies are businesses, will always be operated as such and will always concern themselves with profit over anything else and they can because they are the sole providers. We see the same in the water and railway industries and the regulators are fairly limited in what they can do as all they can do is fine companies which would just go to making their service worse if it affects their profits. Plus you need a lot of evidence and proof for the regulators to do anything anyway.
