I haven't added Anonymous call reject to my service but suddenly anonymous calls (including critical calls from the hospital) are being sent straight to voicemail.

Odd. I'd suggest just check8ng your bill to make sure Anonymous Call Reject hasn't been added and you're paying for it. Other than that perhaps the Shield is the cause even if its turned off.
