can i pay a reduced fee to keep sky hd+ box and recordings from free to air channels ?

As sky are increasing prices for me from March and then tell me  it will rise by another £4 in April (plus what they charge in April 26)  I am looking to save.

Is there an option to keep the box for freeview and pay monthly to record and watch recordings from these channels ?

Please Note: Sky+ is now a legacy/obsolete service that Sky are replacing with their newer services: Sky Q, Sky Glass and Sky Stream

You cannot keep the recording/playback feature as that requires a subscription, if you want the full features of Freesat then purchasing a Freesat box is the way to go

Is there not a cheaper subscription that allows recordings/playback but not access to the full sky channel list ?

@stationcat the cheaper option is available with Sky Q, Sky's current satellite TV platform.

That's 'Television Essentials / TV Essentials' (not 'Essential TV') and is generally provided on a Sky Q box these days because this gives Sky the opportunity to upsell to a current subscription channel and app bundle.
