Thank you for a response but putting aside the personal ' insult' I wish to reiterate that nowhere on the promotional video script does it state Sky Q only and Sky plus boxes excluded. I am indeed a sky vip customer and having searched the VIP app this morning cannot find any details of a special VIP number to call perhaps you could be "more helpful" and explain how I can find that number and access it. Indeed it took 20 minutes of searching Sky web site , Google and various numbers before I found a number that I could speak to someone from sky.  If I have misunderstood the statement " free to all existing sky sports subscribers"clearly I am missing something. Why should I change my set up of 2 sky plus multiroom boxes for additional costs, as you point out, for something that all sky

tell should be free to an existing sky subscriber .

The press articles and skys own press releases have been quite clear regarding the available platforms for the new service

the omission of sky plus is a clear indication that the platform is unsupported

as for the "free to existing subscribers" statement it's correct because it is based on the platforms Sky actively currently sells , supports and markets (sky plus not being one of them)

Sky currently provides a satellite service, but its days are numbered as the strong likelihood is that the satellites themselves will cease to function within this decade. Hence the gradual expansion of a streaming service which ultimately will become the Sky norm.

Re: Sky Sports app content and Sky plus customers

Whilst I can appreciate the rationale, what I can't reconcile is the withdrawal of a service whislt branding it as an "improvement".   Much mileage was made with claims of "the only place you can watch every game" and to a certain extent that was true - every game could be watched if only by virtue of the fact that you were able to watch one game whilst recording another.  Now, although every game has some covereage, I am no longer able tp "watch every game".  I believe it is this aspect that has most people up in arms.  If games were provided on catch-up, even if only for a limited period, I believe Sky would re-gain a large amount of the good will they currently appear to have lost.

Re: can i get sky sports + if i only got sky hd box

Aren't more games available to watch now?

To achieve this required a change to streaming ... it must be disappointing to some but that was not possible via dishes😟

Both, but with the emphasis on internet delivery going forward because satellite television is a technology from the previous century: if the current orbital broadcast platforms aren't replaced in the next few years then it will be extinct in the UK.

Re: can i get sky sports + if i only got sky hd box

I can't comment on other sports but in the case of Rugby League the answer is s resounding "NO"!.  Since the beginning of the season, in February, every Super League (top tier) game has been shown live on one or other of the Sky Sports channels.  This was highlighted by the Sky advertising clains that customers were able to "see every game live".   Some of these games were concurrent which meant that whilst they could not all be watch "live" (as it happened) they could be recorded and watched later.  Therefore every game could be watched which was a big draw and undoubtedly generated a few new customers..

However, now that most games are streamed via Sky Sports +,  only those games which are selected for broadcast on the linear channel can be recorded.  Any streamed games that are missed, for whatever reason, are missed forever becasue they cannot be recorded and are not being offered as catch-up options.  So therefore there are less games available to watch which in my humble opinion constitutes a reduction in promised service.

I've been a sky subscriber for 20 years and have a Sky+ HD multi-room set up which I need to change for an IP based service (for signal ditribution reasons around my home and to an outbuilding). I'd be happy to change to sky stream - but it appears as though, Sky doesn't offer existing subscribers the option to switch to sky stream - new subscribers can have the full package for £78pm. I'm already paying £149 pm and I'm about to start paying EE TV £108 pm for their streaming platform simply because I don' think sky will let me have theirs.  Have I misunderstood the situation? I hope so

@Ilovesky

Why do you believe you cannot get SKY Stream ?

I can think of no reason why you can;t get it - although it may be that you cannot choose it online.

I think existing customers need to call as they want to make sure that any existing contracts are not cancelled before they are due. This is  likely to mean you may need to start another  full term contract rather tyhan a rolling one.

Correct - you need to call to switch to it. I did this back in November when I switched from Sky + HD to Sky Stream.

Although when I called I had to specifically ask the customer services rep for the price of Sky Stream as they were adamant I could only have Sky Q or Sky Glass which I knew was completely incorrect so I demanded to speak to someone who could discuss Sky Stream.

@Barrie+J  as a RL fan did you read this article?

https://www.seriousaboutrl.com/watch-every-super-league-game-rugby-league-sky-sports-91401/

It seems to indicate a new contract with IMG started which have impacted the contract with Sky🤔

Isn't every game available to watch?

Have you asked Sky? We're customers.

Re: can i get sky sports + if i only got sky hd box

"Is every game available to watch?"

The answer is both Yes, and No.  The games are covered, live, but because they  run concurrently you can't watch every game. If a game is chosen for broadcast, you can watch a stream and record the broadcast to watch later. If 2 concurrent games are streamed although both are available to be watched, you can't watch both because the stream can't be recorded and it won't be offered as a catch-up.

a) Q is eight years old and has been followed by a newer generation of hardware, so yes, it is now 'out of date'.

b) Q was designed specifically to have central storage with wireless client devices because that was modern at the time.

Superleague+ is a separate product which is not part of Sky and requires it's own additional subscription.   It is a distinct possibility going forwards and I am actively investigating that.  it's just galling that as a Sky customer (indirectly via Virgin) I believed the Sky hype that I would be able to watch every game and therefore did not take up the Superleague+ option at the start of the season.

Re: can i get sky sports + if i only got sky hd box

Is it compatible with the SkyGo app?

I have 5 sky HD boxes - we rarely watch tv together in my house and I have 3 adult children living here.

I paid a lot to have the house wired and sky hd setup, granted a few years ago now.

While we have had steady service for over 30 years (Sky analogue days), I have avoided updating to Q as one doesn't own the equipment (I have a lot stored in my 2tb planner that I don't want to loose nor would I want to give the box back if I did cancel for any reason also only two streaming boxes can run at any one time.

when the sky hd service end, I will likely just leave and convert the tvs to freesat, but can't see this happening anytime soon as most content is only in HD anyway - none of the main broadcasters have anything solid in 4K other than Netflix/Amazon/Disney....
