Will a SKY HD box work with a card from my Sky + SD box?

My sky + box (SD) has stopped received some BBC broadcast's as they are now in HD. (I only have the basic sky package without the extra sports, movies  etc)

If I buy a used Sky HD box will this work straight away with my existing card and subscription?

I want to use the RF2 output to as at present, to connect to other tv's, and I realise that the Sky HD box still has that (but Sky Q doesn't).

You just need to pair your Viewing Card with the replacement box. You can do that by carrying out a New Install if the box has a broadband connection, or online as explained here: https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-viewing-card-help-activate-plus

@Mark39Thanks Mark. Will this then receive the recently lost BBC programmes that were in SD but now in HD? Or do sky need to do something?

You will be able to view all the BBC channels in HD.

The BBC HD channels are 'free to air', as are ITV HD, C4 HD and Channel 5 HD and a few others, so will be received automatically by a Sky+HD box. There's nothing you or Sky need to do.
