Hi following an email received from Sky relating to a free upgrade to Sky Q following Sky Plus Box eventually dying due to no longer updating the software. I am not able to upgrade to Sky Q - in the event where I live they do not support Sky Q (Communal aerial) - this I have told to Sky on many occasions, so wondering what other options is available at this time. Sky is becoming so expensive, so not in a position to pay any extra at this time. Considering i renewed my contract in February 2024 and received discounts which are now void as their prices went up again which inflected in my last bill, I am not happy at this time, so would like some advice please. Many thanks

@mazzzy62 as @HeathHayle posted your Sky+HD box is unlikely to stop working solely as a result of there being no further software updates - in fact there haven't been any updates now for well over a year already. The box is rather more likely to die because of hard disk failure.

I was emailed telling me I could upgrade with no extra charge. This is due to no longer receiving updates to my current box. I have tried upgrading before. I had to pay an engineer just to be told sky Q is unavailable in my area. Sky is too expensive now so I will probably have to look at changing providers.

Why is Sky Q unavailable? If you have a satellite dish which receives Sky+ then there should be no issue with receiving Sky Q.
Also, if you have a Sky+ HD box rather than a standard Sky+ box, it will continue to function without any future software updates so you don't have to change if you don't want to.
You are correct though, Sky is expensive these days but there are now plenty of alternatives available.

Sky Q should be available in all areas of the UK. What may be a problem is if you're on a communal satellite system and limited to Sky+.

This is the message I recieved.
We’re writing to let you know that your Sky+ TV box will no longer receive software enhancements.
I've also had other issues with network lags. I checked and there are no other accounts or anyone else using my WiFi.
I've no idea why Sky Q is unavailable. We paid an engineer who told me is was unavailable.
It was due to the email I was concerned about my sky. The price has become ridiculous, definitely agree there are other providers so I'll have a look around and see what is available
Thanks for taking the time to reply to me. Much appreciated

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@Lesley-A there are no unavailable areas for Sky Q in the UK and Ireland. However, if your satellite dish is in an inaccessible position and can't be relocated Sky may not be able to carry out a Sky Q installation. Perhaps that's the issue.
