The red light is flashin on my sky+HD box and wont turn on

The red light keeps flashing on the sky ox have tried pressing and holding the power button to reboot it. Have turned it off at the plug while I took my dog for a walk came home turned it back on but it is still just flashing and won't turn on

Sounds like your Sky box has failed. I'm afraid.  You'll either need to replace it or seek a free upgrade to Sky Q from Sky. 

There are used Sky+HD boxes for sale cheaply on ebay - don't pay more than around £30 and look for either a DRX890 or DRX895 model.
