Re: Some channels not getting a satellite signal
Quick get your tinfoil hats out 😈
Can you be sure that the dish didn't move even though the slightest of movement can affect the signal ?
The LNB might be getting past is servicable date and strating to fail. There are many reasons the box can lose signal

@THX1138
A misalignment is not necessarily something that will be visible to the naked eye and could only affect one or two channels so it's quite likely the issue will return.

There must be more going on than Sky is letting on.
All the channels that were breaking up and then displaying the message - “Your Sky+HD box isn’t getting a satellite signal”, are all now working again as normal.
There has been:
- No changes in weather – clear weather & no winds
- No changes to equipment
- No changes in satellite dish position
Was there a transmission problem yet to be stated by Sky or is Sky resorting to more underhanded behaviour by purposely throttling down the transmission power to seed doubt into people’s minds to move over to Sky Stream?
Very curious...
There would have been a lot more noise on the forum if either were true! Sky's means of convincing you to upgrade are much more straightforward - withdrawal of red button services, and engineer support, disallowing pairing of Viewing Cards to replacement boxes are examples.
No, as @Annie+UK posted there are any number of reasons why loss of signal night be temporary. Bear in mind that it's a digital signal so if strength or quality drop marginally below the threshold, the signal will be completely lost. LNB performance, for example starts to degrade after as little as 5 years, so if yours is older than that, it could be a suspect.

Re: Some channels not getting a satellite signal
prior to your loss of signal had you had any significant rain (even if it was a while before failure) ?
If you had then it is feintly possible that water ingress in the connection/cable caused the problem & once dried out allowed ths system to work again.

LOL, thanks all for your humorous and insightful replies. Yes, it probably was a bit of a tin hat moment, but sometimes "truth is stranger than fiction".
I’ve got a specialist Sat engineer doing a survey of things this week, with the plan to replace the LNB – as a matter of course, with a new hybrid model and run a new Wide-Band coax cable for future Sky Q connection.
