Every couple of weeks I switch on the TV to find that no Sky channels will work. I get a message asking me to upgrade to a full subscription but I already have that.

Try performing a New Install

Thanks for your help. I have tried an new update twice and this didn't work. Also, the power was off for two weeks when we were on holiday and the channels dropped whilst we were away. Sky denies this but I think Sky are switching them off periodically as they no longer support the Sky+HD box that I have.

If you have your Sky box off at the mains for an extended time the box does not get the authorisation signal from the satellite (this is how the boxes have worked since day one), thus you will need to pair the card to reauthorise your viewing card
You need to get Sky to send the authorisation signal if a New Install does not work

Yes, I phone Sky and a signal is sent to switch the Sky channels back on. This lasts for about two weeks after which they drop again. What I cannot understand also is that this happens with the second sky box that we have upstairs too at the same time. The sky boxes do not switch off after use. The main box, in the sitting room, goes into standby mode but this is only for a period of a few hours overnight whereas the sky box upstairs is used far less often and is in standby mode for days on end. Both boxes lose the sky channels at the same time however. When the downstairs box loses it's channels we always check the upstairs box and find that it has also lost its channels. This surely can't be a coincidence?
