A familiar problem which, in the past, I have been able to resolve, but this timeI cannot get my Sky box out of standby mode. Turning of at the mains and so on has not worked on this occasion.

No, becasue without decoupling the box and removing it from the containing unit,quite a task, I cannot physically perform the procedure. Fortunately, I eventually managed to contact Sky and they informed me that in addition to an online standard procedure all I had to do was press the power button on top of the box. I did not want to appear churlish but I asked why was that not part of their instructions but the lady did not know.
Missed the Worl Cup final but Argentina won so it does not matter.
