Sky hd+ channels freezing and pixelating

I have a Sky HD+ box and finding Sky channels frequently freeze for few seconds then pixelate then go back to normal. Sometimes happens several times in quick succession and sometime longer gap say 10 minutes but not longer than that. It doesnt ever happen on bbc, itv, channel 4 or 5 which seems odd as all coming through the same box/cable. Not an issue with signal as that remains the same when channel freezes. LNB has been replaced and engineer says cable is fine (dual feed). Have multi-room and doesn't happen on the second box. TV itself is fine as no issues with Netflix/Amazon. Any ideas please?

What are your Signal Strengths/Qualities? Take a look at the link below:

Re: Sky hd+ channels freezing and pixelating

Hi @Annie+UK thanks for your response - input 1 is about 90% for both strength and quality and signal 2 is 100% for strength and about 90% for and that doesn't change when the picture freezes. Once picture (and sound) unfreeze it is back to live rather than being paused

My guess is a dodgy LNB

Please Note: Sky+ is now a legacy service that Sky are replacing with their newer services: Sky Q (all issues will be fixed during a Sky Q install), Sky Glass and Sky Stream

Re: Sky hd+ channels freezing and pixelating

Had a new one fitted last week by engineer - not Sky because as you say they no longer support the hd boxes - and hasn't helped. Not keen to go to Sky Q because wifi not great for the multi room box and can't be via cable. Do you think the replacement LNB could also be faulty? Appreciate any advice - thanks

Anything can be broken new, but are you 100% sure they actually replaced the LNB?

Also, does this happen on recordings or live tv or both?

Re: Sky hd+ channels freezing and pixelating

As sure as i can be @Annie+UK  saw engineer go up with a replacement and change it and he was recmmended to me so no reason to doubt

@Mark39 only aware of it when watching live. There's occasionally a loss of signal (with message) on recordings but not freezing and then starting again the way it does when watching live and when there's no change in signal

Re: Sky hd+ channels freezing and pixelating

Have you reported the issues to the installer of the new LNB?

@DJC60 seems to be a brief loss of signal, not long enough to register on the signal strength meters (they're an approximation only). That might be the result of a faulty LNB as discussed, or a momentary obstruction of the signal path to the dish. Or conceivably external interference of some kind.

Re: Sky hd+ channels freezing and pixelating

@Exiled-in-HH yes engineer is aware and coming back - making no charge as it didn't work. Presumably LNB feeds both boxes on multi room and there aren't any issues on the second box just the main one. Not sure if i've said previously but i bought a new box and the same thing happens with that so would be very unlucky if both boxes have the same issue!

@Mark39 thanks Mark would a signal issue not affect both boxes on multi room rather than only one and it is only Sky channels that are affected rather than bbc, itv, channel 4&5 etc - do they work in a different way?

It would if it was an alignment or obstruction issue, but not if it's LNB or cable related. Channels are broadcast from different transponders which have individual tuning characteristics. It's the LNB which sets up the correct tuning characteristics for the channel you select, so a fault can affect some channels and not others.
