I'm having the same issues as everyone else, also on Talktalk but Sky Q box here. Very frustrating.

That would suggest it's not just the old HD boxes. If so, I'm surprised there aren't more reports.

Re: Sky catchup unusable

I can't fathom it , I don't use Talk Talks supplied router never have with any ISP they are throttled to hell' Netgear Nighthawk working fine is my latest one it's strange as if at TT end Sky traffic is getting not blocked as such but a lower priority, it's Sky HD + and your Q now so it's defo something or in reverse Sky is somehow throttling TT' just a theory not fact

Are you all using TTs DNS servers? if so try changing to 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 (Cloudflare), this can be done in the network setting on the Sky+ box if you cannot do it on your router

No idea what any of that means but it seems to have worked.

Tried 1.1.1.1 first and that immediately brought all the icons back. But downloads still failed. So tried 1.0.0.1 and now downloading fine.

It was set to 79.79.79.79

All via Sky box.

Thanks @Annie+UK

On the network setting, of the sky box, go to manual (IIRC the green button)

You'll need to give a unique IP address for the box, a sub net mask of 255.255.255.0 then one of the DNS addresses in my earlier post

Re: Sky catchup unusable

Followed your instructions exactly and now both my connection to the broadband router and On Demand have failed!

At first I couldn't figure out how to change the DNS settings on my Eero router so tried configuring manual settings in the Sky HD+ box's network settings. It didn't seem to age any difference (and I would have needed to ensure DHCP wouldn't assign my chosen address to another device on my network).

I eventually found where in the Eero app to try and configure custom DNS servers but had to turn off the Advanced Security network control to enable custom settings. Even that didn't seem to work and I couldn't quite convince myself the change had taken place as visiting as visiting https://www.top10vpn.com/tools/what-is-my-dns-server/ on my iPad was still showing a Tiscali server rather than Cloudflare. I eventually put that down to my iPad caching the old dns settings.

long story short, I can now download using 1.0.0.1 as the primary DNS.

As a software engineer my inner curiosity would love to know what the actual problem is and why it just started today. Maybe Sky's systems changed IP addresses and the DNS propagation to TalkTalk was slow? I might switch back again in a couple of days to see if it still fails.

The settings for the network are reversable so you are safe to just go back to using DHCP (automatic IP Address allocation from your router) but this will not fix the download issues

I've been using Cloudflares DNS for years with no issues, you need to understand how your IP addresses are allocated otherwise you can have issues

You've probably misconfigured the network settings by giving your sky box an ip address that is not on the same network as your router. If you don't know what you are doing then it is easy to break things. Correct network configuration is a bit off-topic for this thread (and even this forum).

I would suggest using the red button in the sky box networks settings to reset it back to using DHCP (to automatically configure settings from your router). That should then show your box can connect to your router and to on demand. This puts you back to where things were and you still probably won't be able to download (unless the underlying problem has been fixed in the meantime). Then you need to figure out how to access the configuration settings for your router to change the DNS configuration as Annie suggested. Here is not the place to find/discuss how to do that. You should be able to google it.

Re: Sky catchup unusable

Thanks for replying, it's only me at home and I think I've exhausted my Sky technical knowledge (which is very little anyway).  Reckon I'll have to get an engineer out tomorrow......
