So will this be a permanent thing? Surely not!
Shouldn't be. Once the handshake has completed ok, it should remain ok.

Thanks. Odd though. It's a new Samsung and only been in use for 3 days but has not happened before.

Posted by a Sky employeeUpdate - Spoken to customer and after a few checks we found the issue to be with Samsung, the customer is going to contact them directly for support. Thanks 🙂

Yes it does work and maybe for a day or two. Ours has been ok for 2 or 3 days and this morning - no sound! Turned off waited a while and turned on again. This
is not right but not sure what to do. Seems a common problem so a new set might not solve the problem.

My Sky + ws in the middle of playing something yesterday when the sound suddenly stopped. I tried restting the box, then I tried a software update, both to no avail. Despite the fact the TV was working fine, thanks to the answers here I unplugged the (Sony) TV for a few minutes and when I restarted it the sound was back 🙂

Hi;
Yes the same old Sky+ HDMI handshake problem. A number of people have had this problem on many different set manufactures. The common link is the Sky + HDMI. I have cleared this problem must be 3 to 4 times now, by powering off for 5minutes both the set and Sky+ box .on powering them up gain fault "fix until next time".

As far as I can see (and I'm definitely no expert) this happens - to me anyway - only with downloaded content. It usually starts with the ad break being mute, then sometimes when it gets back to the show the sound is back on, sometimes not. I've found that if you wait and come back to it it will come on. I feel it may be due to slower than usual download of the programme. Video is downloaded but if you watch it as soon as it says "available", it's like the audio has to catch up. So when you get to the point where, to continue the theory, the audio has not yet downloaded, it's not there so you can't hear it. Almost every time it's happened to me I have done nothing but pause it and go back maybe 10 mins or so later and it works fine. Just now it worked when I simply ran the progamme back a few seconds. Don't know if it always will.
But that's my guess: it's to do with somehow the audio not being downloaded to your box at the same speed as the video. Makes sense when you think about it. I had a similar problem with a programme being "available" but if I scooted through ads it suddenly said "end of programme." The video and audio at that stage, ie the whole file, had not yet downloaded fully and so I had to wait for it to do so. FYI i have fast broadband (360 Mbps with Virgin) so it's not my broadband connection being slow.
Dunno if that helps, but it is another thing to try. The other option (boring as it is) is to watch your download till the percentage is above 50% and then start watching it. Usually by the time you get to the end of the programme the download has caught up.

Had the same problem here today - after much messing around, it was the HDMI slot on the TV that seemed to be the cause - switched the cable to HDMI2, everything fine. LG TV.

Suddenly happened today to my old, somewhat glitchy SkyHD box and 2 year old Samsung QLED set. Switched cables, ports even tried an old HD box! After reading this thread I tried switching off TV for 5 min s. Whoopee sound back ! What I think is that I've recently taken to switching everything off at the mains rather than leaving in standby. That must have caused the issue ( I hope)

Happened to me today. I Player, netflix etc all had sound. So I tried the DVD player and DVD recorder, no sound there either. Unplugged TV, plugged back in, everything fine. Seems to be a smart TV problem maybe ?
