Should I upgrade to sky Q or stream from Sky + SD?

I've been a sky customer since 2008. I have been using the same box Amstrad Drx 550 box, its going well for me.

Then recently I have got a letter from sky saying that if i dont upgrade soon to sky q theyll cancel my channels, not just sky but the other channels such as sports and movie channels.

I actually was considering upgrading box in 2022 but put that off since it was still working and i didnt need much more from it.

But now a few years passed and now i need to upgrade. Should i upgrade to sky q for no extra cost or get stream? cost isnt really an issue for me, if sky stream is better.

I've looked online and saw that stream is basically sky q give or take a few  channels without the dish, everything is streamed via broadband.

I should also say that my broadband is relatively slow as well, about 7 mb/s to 19 mb/s. I  havent really upgraded in a few years since it was working alright for me, albeit had to use everything in lite mode.

My concern is that if i get sky stream it may not be that good if my wifi is slow. I could just get sky q for no extra cost, and that runs on the same satellite as my 2008 box so all i need to do is swap cables.

Anyway i just wanted to ask what you think, if stream is better than q i might also get sky broadband, was about time to upgrade the old dsl to fibre recently came to my area.

Re: Should I upgrade to sky Q or stream from Sky + SD?

Actually one of my friends, he has moved from stream to q, since stream was quite inconsistent especially in streaming channels, watching from start etc. He says it does make a delay when you switch channels and even going to the home screen it says "please wait" for a long time and he doesnt get those issues on sky q. and unlike on q internet access is mandatory u cant even watch ur saved shows or movies whereas on q you can watch live tv and recorded shows without internet and without satellite watch internet streamed shows.

I think stream is like q just stripped the functionality and benefits of having a sattelite

Beside the engineer will just have to swap cables from box to box, since theyre both sky sattelites.

Sky Q is much closer in operation to Sky+ than Sky Stream is. I believe Sky now recommend broadband speed of at least 25Mbps for Sky Stream, so it might not be an option for you with your current broadband service.

Stream is absolutely not viable on those kinds of speeds.  If that's an ADSL connection you'd need to move to FTTC as a minimum before even considering Stream.

The engineer will also need to swap the LNB on the dish when switching to Sky Q.

@Liren642 There is no need to switch to Q or Stream🤔

Get a second-hand Sky+ HD DRX890, easily available online. If you've got only one sat feed you can run it in single feed mode😉
