Second Hand SKY HD boxes - A word of Caution

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more

It has come to our attention that SKY seems to have changed their policy regarding paring exsting SKY HD box subscription cards to  other SKY HD boxes (i.e. a different box to the one it is currently /has been paired) & this will no longer be allowed.

In the past we have often advised that customers with a defective SKY HD box could source a second hand box & pair their card  to allow customers to continue with a SKY HD box rather than have to switch to SKY Q or SKY Glass/Stream - but we now need to advise that this seems to no longer be an option

Thus we do have to caution anyone thinking of buying a second hand SKY HD box to be able to continue with their subscription

Sky should make a stronger public statement about the discontinuation of support for Sky+ HD services🤔

I suspect they'd argue a second hand Sky+ HD box isn't a Sky product: people can choose to buy and sell them as free to air satellite receivers if they wish, but there's now no option to use hardware acquired that way as a platform to receive a subscription service.

Perhaps worth noting that the contract always made a distinction between the hardware device and the subscription service associated with the viewing card.

Correct ... BUT a responsible company might want to protect their customers from wasting money🤔
