Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreUnless you're in Ireland, 801 is BBC1 HD if your TV Guide hasn't 'smart switched' to show HD channels at the top, which it should if you have the HD add-on.
If 801 does not have the red banner, it's BBC1 HD.

@Mark39 I have just pressed HD on my TV guide and 101 is BBC South HD ....I have gone down to 951 where the other regions are but South is not there

Did you try 801? If it's showing the same programme as 101, without the red banner, it's BBC1 HD

@caesarome 801 is BBC One there is nothing about HD next to BBC One unlike 101
@Mark39 yes I did try 801 but it doesn't say HD even in the programme description banner at the top

If 101 has the red banner it's standard definition.
If 801 doesn't have the red banner, it's high definition regardless of what's in the TV Guide.
There's no on screen graphic which says BBC1 HD.

@Mark39 the graphic is on the line I have just pressed 101 on the box at the top it says BBC underneath One underneath HD tiny writing
then 20min HD S Started at 5:15pm
then The latest national international news from the BBC (S) (HD)
this is 101

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out more@CaroleR1957 it appears to be a set of circumstances which are unique to you. If you still think the channel without the red banner is in SD. I can only suggest you pursue it with Sky

@Mark39 Thanks I will

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreYou're ranting at the wrong people. The BBC are responsible for the banner, not Sky. Tell them. Better still watch the HD channel. The banner is warning you thay the SD channel you're watching will soon cease to be.

Thanks guys..... I do understand. Hopefully there are enuff people in same boat that will complain..... wait a sec.... perhaps Sky should NOT show BBC channels???? That might be an alternative????
But, yeah, sorry for rant (and it wasn't directed at forum users at all).... I'll just cancel my TV license..... taket that Gary!!

Unfortunately Sky are obliged to carry BBC, ITV etc.
I agree with you that the permanent display of the red banner is unnecessary.

The BBC have gone with a slight Sledghammer on this but unless you have an SD only box there is no reason why you should not be watching / recording the HD versions
By having the banner so prominent and always present they have really made sure that anyone wishing to continue watching will be aware that they must swap over ahead of the date they switch off the SD versions
