Pre recorded items viewed after end of contract.

I have a Sky + with recerded material on it but because the property is empty I cancelled the subscription and now cannot watch the recorded programs.

Can I buy/rent a activated card simply to watch what I have recorded. The box will not be connected to a dish.

I'm afraid not. Even if you were able to, the box would have to be connected to the dish. TO be able to view recorded items you have to have a Sky subscription which includes the channels they were recorded from.

@dawnperks  In addition to what @Mark39 says you also won't be able to re subscribe to view the recordings as sky no longer supports sky plus hardware or sell new subscriptions for sky plus

@dawnperks it's a good point @SKY1992bf raises. More widely, if you decide at some point to re-subscribe to Sky, you'll almost certainly have to upgrade to Sky Q, for the same reason - Sky are unlikely to sell you a new Sky+ subscription.

Access to hard drive content is a subscription service (and intended for time-shifted viewing, not archiving) : the Viewing Card is just one element of subscription verification.  Unfortunately the content on that drive is now essentially irretrievable as it will be locked up by the on-board encryption: only a Sky subscription with satellite signal verification unlocks it, and as indicated above, Sky no longer offers new subscription on Sky+ hardware.
