Please can you help me connect my sky+ box to the Internet so that I can record programmes?

I have recently been given a sky+box and am wondering how I can connect it upto the Internet to be able to record programmes etc. I have a sky dish and BT broadband. Please can you help me?

First things first - does your Sky box have a button on the front panel labelled 'WPS'?

@HannahEJR the easiest way to connect, then, is to press the WPS button on your BT Hub (it's on the side, so may not be obvious) and within 30 seconds press the WPS button on your Sky box.

The wireless light on the front panel of your Sky box will flash amber while it's trying to connect, and will turn solid amber when it's made the connection. You should then be able to access On Demand.

Thanks Mark39! I managed to connect the Internet, but now I can't get a signal on my TV to watch. I have done the switching on and off of the TV and box, plus reinstalled the tele. Still no joy! I have a sharp tele.

Was the Sky box not connected to the TV already? If you tell us the background to this it may help.

What message are you seeing on screen?

I've got the tele working, Internet connected and software updated. But when trying to connect with catch up tv or recording a programme I am getting "No entitlement" message on my screen. Thankyou for helping me and sorry for all the random questions too.

This is most likely because your box does not have an active viewing card inserted

I'm guessing this is a new box and not a replacement for an existing box, if this is the case then you'll not be able to record or get the paid for channels

As @Annie+UK indicates, a Sky+ box acquired that way is unlikely to have an associated Sky account, and in the absence of a current subscription it can only function as a simple receiver for live Freesat channels with no ability to record, access existing recordings or the use of other facilities.

I'm signed up to an active account and have put the viewing card into the box. I'm now in the process of updating the software again. Would this help? The account is linked in with my dad's who lives with me, but he's lost account details.

@HannahEJR  what card have you inserted into the new box ? Is it the one from your dad's box or one that came with the new box

It's the old card connected to the account.

@HannahEJR I think we are all a bit confused as to your setup. Two accounts can't be "linked" and you can't have two accounts at the same address.

Does your dad have a Sky subscription that includes Multiroom? This is the only way to have two Sky+HD boxes fully working in the same house.
