Playback from copied Sky+HD recordings (to HDD recorder) are just white noise/snow

I have a one TB Sky+HD box which contains several stored (kept) recorded programs I want to keep. I am changing to Sky Q shortly, and I'd like to transfer these saved recordings from my Sky+HD box to my Sony RDR HXD 995 HDD recorder. I have followed the Sky instructions for copying from my Sky box to a recorder, but all I get on playback is white noise/snow. I have connected the Sky+HD box to the Line one/decoder Scart socket on my recorder using a Scart lead, and I have connected the Sony recorder to my (non-scart) TV using the HDMI out socket on the Sony recorder to an HDMI socket on the TV. I have seen somewhere that Sky recordings are encoded, and so cannot be played from another device - is this true? Or can I use a Scart to HDMI convertor lead from the Sony recorder Line 3 TV Scart socket direct to the TV? Would this convertor also act as a decoder if needed? I am unclear as to how to proceed - help!

@Mrreliable  Sky does use copy protection as you can only legally access recordings whilst you are subscribed to the relevant channel and only on sky hardware

Unless you own the full rights to the programmes you are only supposed to make TEMPORARY recordings and not save them for archiving purposes

@Mrreliable couple of things:

1. are you selecting the correct input source on your DVD recorder?

2. Not all Scart cables have all pins connected

3. As @SKY1992bf posted, Sky use  macrovision encryption on some recordings to prevent copying.

Try a recording from BBC1 or ITV to see if it copies OK. They're unlikely to be macrovision protected

@Mrreliable Although it's been a while, I used to regularly copy from my Sky+HD Box to my DVD Recorder. If something wasn't allowed to be copied (usually movies) it came up with an error message when trying to copy, rather than copying nothing.
