Yes it's classed as an 'Additional TV Service' which you dont have to pay extra for.  That doesnt mean it's not part of your subscription, it's definitely part of my Sky Signature as it clearly says in my account.....

"Enjoy 300+ channels, including our Sky documentary channels, as well as Sky Box Sets on demand for hours of entertainment."

This is listed in my account and there is a charge for this.

Certainly, but there are inherent contradictions between Signature as a service and Sky+ / Sky+ HD as a platform.

You didn't spot the post this morning where I described Sky advertising for Glass/Stream as 'disingenuous to point of illegality' then ; )

No I didn't, I am a life subscriber to this thread which is more than enough 😄

It's just some of the excuses, reasoning, buck passing and lack of sympathy from some of the superusers I find it hard to fathom - and can only put it down to the need to support Sky at almost any cost.  Just my 2 cents.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

WE CAN DOWNLOAD AGAIN..... for now..
As a last resort to get this fiasco sorted,  we bought a new modern router/modem, just to see if it changed anything. Our current one is  5odd yrs old.
Downloads, catch-up, are now working properly, after installing it.
It is so wrong that Sky implemented new hardware/software in January that resulted in all of  our systems partial failure.
We should not have had to buy anything new to rectify their changes
How sad that nobody cares enough at Sky to help it's longstanding paying customers. (31 yrs)

This whole affair of 4months with us all phoning, needless engineer visits , 648 community posts..etc.etc.could have been avoided if Sky realized what  harm they  had done.

It seems they do NOT  have a fix..an ANSWER..it's up to us, which is so wrong.

Hi @Shut-ins I agree that you should not have had to do this but sadly I do not think Sky have any intention of fixing this issue.  Can I ask,  as I am not very Tech savvy.  Did you get a new router off the shelf or did you speak to your broadband provider for them to supply this for you?  I can see that you can buy routers from various places but not sure if it is just a case of buying a router and plugging it in or if you need to go via your ISP.

Depending on your ISP they may not want you using your own equipment. I am with Plusnet and they don't seem to mind if you do.

I am also reluctant to buy a new router as it will then have to be got rid of when I can have the new full fibre connection in my area.

Why get rid, an old router can still be used, we use our older BT hub as a wi-fi hotspot (to extend the range) and Ethernet switch to alow more wired devices in another part of the house

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

yes  @Kayelaina we bought a tplinkTD-W9970.from Argos 31.99, as a spare, 6 months ago .It is a router and a modem combined . It is the same make and model as our 5yr old one, so we didn't expect any change, but it looks a bit different.

Our isp.., Plusnet, use just a router which was used alongside a BT modem. We decided to get this TP combined unit one instead, when our old Plusnet router broke. We needed their help to install it 5yrs ago. Today we installed the spare newer version ourselves and it solved the problem. Hopefully it will still work tomorrow!

It seems, as my husband joked, that Sky only helps those who help themselves! But no this is serious.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

The router I have is also a mesh system. But looking at the settings it seems it might be worth playing with the Hardware NAT and/or the Clone Mac address option.

The sky box is clearly not the issue as if I tether any  of my 3 to my phone and use 4G they all work fine. I assume at sky's end it either the network name or the mac address of my sky boxes that are causing it to still get routed to the old DNS headend that Sky mentioned.

I think it works via 4g as the name or mac address of my Sky boxes are not getting sent across the internet.

Equally on the same network if I install Sky Go on my PC I can both stream and also download the sky content.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

Thanks @MogwaiSatTV , I  am also waiting for fibre to hit the village but it seems it will be several months until that happens!  I too am reluctant but am not sure there is any other option as Sky seem to have given up on this and I do not feel hopeful that their so called fix will happen anytime soon.  Thanks @Shut-ins , I will head to Argos in the morning and see how it goes. Fingerscrossed I can work out how to do it!

Glad that you have manged to get the problem resolved, just a shame you had to sort it out yourself rather than get the support from Sky, as they created the issue. 🙄

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

Just looking at a message I got and they seemed to have looped back to asking who my isp is and what my average speed is.😠.

Despite the issue being acknowleged as DNS change at their end.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

@Kayelaina For my setup I have separate router and fibre modem. If you current router and modem are combined you will need to make sure the new router you get also has the modem built in as not all routers do.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

Thanks @MogwaiSatTV , I guess I have a router/modem in one as I only have box in the house.

Re: On demand download failure Sky+ on 2 boxes

@Kayelaina @Good luck..hopefully your internet provider is ok with another router/ modem being used. Ring them up and get their help.  I couldnt have done it..husband much more tech savvy

We have full fibre in our village but it comes via telegraph pole on a wire and would  involve openreach cutting off  a lot of branches  of a huge silver birch tree down to get it to our property...not that bothered.
