So had to buy new second hand Sky + HD box because original Sky+ box (entertainment package only) had no hdmi socket and I had to get a fancy new (scart-less) TV.
The old box worked perfectly and was never connected to the internet and the new one I replaced it with has an ethernet port (no wifi) and has aerial in and rf out (which is what I needed)
Everything is fine and dandy except recording seems to be intermitant, I keep getting: Failed rec: Subscription needed message on programs at 9pm on both Showcase and History, other channels appear to be ok though.
I tried the unplug / reinsert card and still no joy, any ideas??

Thanks for the prompt reply, it started a chain reaction. Hope it helps someone else in the future.
I ended up installing the 'My Sky' app on a tablet, signing in, and using the laptop / browser to get: https://activatemychannels.sky.com/activate
Walks you through it and was pretty instant but have all your system details to hand first.
