Considering switching my 90 year old MIL from SKY+ to SKY Q. More or less happy with the deal. However there's one issue that's potentially blocking the switch.
Her SKY+ box has about 12 recordings she wants to keep.
There's a few shows she does not want to lose and will stay on SKY+
When the box is de-commisioned - will she still be able to playback those important to her programmes?

Recording on a sky box are temporary, the box is not meant for archiving recordings. The recordings will be lost eventually when the box fails

So logically then I should cancel my SKY Q upgrade?

Do remember that all hard disks fail eventually, and even the most recent Sky+ boxes are at least 6 years old....
If you've ordered Sky Q already and cancel, the Viewing Card in your MIL's box will be disabled at some point and need to be replaced. The replacement Card will still allow access to existing recordings.

@bettyh02 If your mother in law wants to keep the recordings then yes, but you must do so before installation
note if q has been ordered and you cancel you might find the existing Sky + viewing card will still be disabled and this is normal practice, a new sky q viewing card will be issued regardless of cancellation just replace existing card with the q one
