Is SKY+HD box DRX890WL-Z the same as DRX890WL without the '-Z' at the end ? Thanks.

My Sky+HD box ref. DRX890WL-Z needs replacing and I've found one that looks identical on the photos, but this one is missing the '-Z' at the end of the ref. number. My question is 'are they the same and will it work once the card is put in?'

hi @Pastor+Slocket 

Since October last year you can no longer pair a card with a box it was not paired with then (i.e. it will only work in the existing box)

Thus getting another box would not help you as you could not pair your card in it, unfortunately

@Pastor+Slocket if your current Sky box isn't working correctly, the alternative is to upgrade to Sky Q or Stream. You may already have received a letter or email  inviting you to upgrade for free.

No. Unfortunately all historic advice about replacing a failed Sky+ HD box by moving the card over is now out of date and consequently very misleading.  The eBay vendors probably don't know this and are selling in good faith.

I've no idea on legalities, but I would have thought that it would be up to the buyer to ascertain whether the item they are buying is suitable for the purpose they are buying it for.

Well how would the seller know it wouldn't work in this particular case, unless they frequently visit this forum and are aware of this issue they wouldn't as sky aren't and likely won't be publicly mentioning the change

They will work as free-to-air receivers (with a compatible LNB)

I had a quick look at half a dozen listings and none of them mentioned card pairing.
