I threatened to leave sky as I no longer use it. I was offered a package as I am a broadband customer for a sky basic package. This should include sky showcase, Atlantic etc but I am now on the phone to be told I am paying to have the privilege of pausing and playing alone

I guess you mean Sky Essentials

 

Sky Essentials is ALL the free channels with recording / playback enabled, you get none of the subscription channels

Sky support for Sky+HD and earlier systems has ended, you can still get support if you already have Sky Protect insurance otherwise you'll have to find your own 3rd party company to get support from at your own expense

Yes, that's correct. You get all the free to air channels, but pay for the ability to record/playback/pause.

 

If you want access to Sky Atlantic etc. you need a subscription to the Signature package.

I've now been told that my 6 month old box was discontinued for receiving a signal so therefore I can only use pause/ play etc

@DebbieM76  Do you have SKy+HD or Sky Q, as you mentioned only 6 months old and Sky + boxes have not been sold for a very long time.

Like you I'm a customer here, Sky Employees are clearly identified as such.

I was send a sky plus box after threatening to leave (I still have sky broadband)

That would have been a refurbished box. Even the most recent boxes were manufactured as long ago as 2015/2016. Sky no longer provide new subscriptions for Sky+ boxes.

Note that the situation is complicated because Sky+ HD hasn't been offered to customers for years.  To now get a subscription for viewing Atlantic, Sky might well insist you took Sky Q.
