I have just successfully paired my viewing card to my Sky + box.  Telephoned Sky .  Automated service. Say you want to pair your card when asked and just follow the easy steps.  It took a couple of minutes and my card was paired almost immediately.  They wont let me put the telephone number I used in this message for some reason.

Was this card already paired in the box previously or was this a totally different box?

Re: How to pair sky viewing card to Sky+ box

It was paired previously, and just suddenly stopped working, but it is a sky box that I purchased off Ebay, not supplied by Sky.

@FROLLIE as the card was previously paired to the same box it will work

if you try to pair the card to a completely different box it will no longer work

That's why sky could "pair" the card, they actually resent the signal to reset the card rather than paired a new card to your box

Re: How to pair sky viewing card to Sky+ box

  • Do all Sky+ HD boxes have a slot for a  viewing card ?

I'm sure mine doesn't and I dont remember having a viewing card for many years.

Have a look for a pull down flap on the right hand side. (It's a long time since I had one)

Re: How to pair sky viewing card to Sky+ box

Ah ha ! Thanks.🙏

I got the flap open after a lot of fiddling. I dont think it's been opened since the day it was put in and I'd long forgotten.

I had just wondered if my subscription was connected some other way.

Seems I'll have the same issue of no pairing now if my current box fails. 🙄

Re: How to pair sky viewing card to Sky+ box

They haven't stopped support for direct debits from my bank account yet for their legacy / unsupported products!!! 🤣🤣😂😁

I have had sky since the analogue days, I have 4 multi-room boxes spread across the house, living room, kitchen and two bedrooms.

I had been looking forward to upgrading to SkyQ however I am unable to accept the terms and conditions, i.e. not owning the equipment and a maximum of two operating boxes at any one time being the main blockers.

I have had Sky World (movies and sports) and despite the VIP Black status (20 years+), the monthly sub being over €180, I think Sky could have done more to ensure we were looked after.

I am annoyed that they have withdrawn support for the Sky+ app never mind the pairing issue, it was so handy when you couldn't find the remote control!!!

I would have thought holding on to existing customers was priority one, given the level of proliferation and competition across different streaming platforms now.

As each box fails, if sky refuse to pair cards to replacement boxes, that sub will be removed from my account until the main box fails at which point subscribtion will be discontinued.

Most of what we watch are the free stations now anyway, UK Gold, some sports and the odd film!

P.S. I also hated when they rebranded Sky 1 !

I don't know what their current business strategy involves, but I suspect it focuses on attracting new customers rather than keeping existing customers unprofitably. Discounts for existing customers certainly appear to be more modest than previously. I don't think Sky are wildly out of step with their competitors in this regard.

Re: How to pair sky viewing card to Sky+ box

They initially maintained that SkyQ and Sky+HD were different products, SkyQ was for customers that had just 1-2  multirooms and that if your household did not conform to this, Sky Q was not the product for you, you needed Sky HD.

Unfortunately, this current housing crisis means I still have adult children living at home (hopefully will be resolved later this year) and you cannot have more than one full system per household, wiping out the technical advantage of having a wideband LNB for that matter (you could split the horizontal and vertical cables between different boxes and just have one dual feed from the LNB)).

The whole approach is a bit daft, if you want more than one full system in the house and willing to pay full price I would certainly oblige the customer. Seems odd you would deny doubling your revenue.

But thankfully this conversation is becoming largely redundant now.

I think it is since the deal with Comcast, I used to get 12 month deals on Movies and Sports - now the max is 6 months.
