I suspect they'd argue a second hand Sky+ HD box isn't a Sky product: people can choose to buy and sell them as free to air satellite receivers if they wish, but there's now no option to use hardware acquired that way as a platform to receive a subscription service.

Correct ... BUT a responsible company might want to protect their customers from wasting money🤔

SKy may well inform SKY HD customers of the change but, if they do, it is more likely to be via personal comms to them  rather than a global statements via press etc.

They've already been informed that all support and updates have ceased. Maybe they feel that covers this.

So they haven't explicitly be warned by this change ... a course of action promoted by many superusers in this discussion area🤔

It's a shame Sky customers are likely to continue waste money😔

Obviously superusers will no longer be promoting it moving forward but unfortunately we can't remove previous replies that suggest it

Not unless you can find within your Sky+ terms and conditions something that says they'll always allow you to pair a Viewing Card and a Sky+ box you've acquired for yourself. I suspect that's highly unlikely.

@Neraklleb

The facility was there to permit transfer of a card from one box supplied by Sky to another box supplied by Sky.

Sky no longer supplies this hardware (and in most cases hasn't done so for years)

Re: How to pair sky viewing card to Sky+ box

So I am legally allowed to switch my card between my homes with SKy+ boxes, but now sky say they is not possible, without telling anyone. The advisor said they will give me a new SkyQ, for jus one of my homes. So I would have to spend £600+ on extra boxes, plus the £125 a month. Next message is to sky to cancely subscription. Bye Bye Sky.......

@RobStar73

Where has that figure come from? Sky Q boxes are loaned to you (but there is an admin/activation fee for mini boxes).

It's always been against Skys Terms & Conditions to use a viewing card in a different address to that the account is registered

Below is from Sky's Terms & Conditions

4.4. You must only use the Viewing Card for private viewing purposes. You must not use it for any commercial or business purpose or in any premises other than your address.

4.5. The Viewing Card must not be used outside the country (either the UK or Republic of Ireland) it was supplied for use in.

Re: How to pair sky viewing card to Sky+ box

I have just successfully paired my viewing card to my Sky + box.  Telephoned Sky .  Automated service. Say you want to pair your card when asked and just follow the easy steps.  It took a couple of minutes and my card was paired almost immediately.  They wont let me put the telephone number I used in this message for some reason.
