Had SKY Q, cancelled 2 yrs ago. Want to put old Sky + HD Box on for free channels, gettin No Signal

Hi,

I had SKY Q, cancelled 2 yrs ago so set it back with mini boxes. Now I have no internet currently due to storm and want to put old Sky + HD Box i had kept in the attic on only to watch free channels BB1 ITV etc....  However  i am getting "No Signal" message when i try to connect the old box up.  The dish is still up as it has been for 20 od years.  (i cant remember if we had to change the dish togo from Sky HD to Sky Q??)

I still have the old sky card in the box.

Is this possible to do at all or will i not get a signal because i had cancelled 2 years ago and not used the sky +hd box for about 4 years until i've tried this week?

Thanks,

Eir

It won't work because the LNB on your dish (the electronic bit on the arm) was changed when you had Sky Q, and isn't compatible with Sky+.

@Eir1

Only a 'Freesat 4K' box will function through a Q LNB, and unfortunately those are c£150 even for the non-recording version.

Ah ok i understsand why now.  Thank you both for your replies.  So any 'Freesat 4K' box (even if pricey) will work with the dish and LNB yes or does it have be manufactured within the last x number of years to be dcompatible?

Just make sure any box is wideband compatible as that is what the Sky Q LNB is

No. All Sky Q boxes are owned by Sky. Any you see for sale on eBay are stolen property and Sky have the ability to remotely disable them.

@Eir1

You can't buy a Sky Q box… well, not legally. Any advertised for sale are stolen property. Sky Q boxes are loaned to Sky Q customers,m

Sky Q boxes are usually Sky property so I'm unsure if they even work without a Sky subscription

It must have the '4K' branding, so by definition will be reasonably recent.  HD models wont work, even though that's the maximum resolution of Freesat signal.

There are no Freesat signals there are are only DSat signals other than the Freesat epg stream🤔

In the past Freesat devices could receive the Astra UHD demo broadcast channel😉

I've no doubt you're correct but I'm also pretty sure everyone understands what is meant when 'Freesat' is used.

No standalone Freesat receiver has been capable of displaying the Astra UHD demo channel - the older devices couldn't output UHD and the newer one (badged 4k) isnt' able to process the channel.

Some TVs with Freesat support could display the channel.

Really ... there is absolutely no doubt about it🤔

Many continue to think the FTA broadcast channels are different😉
