But I can't watch free to view UK Yesterday on Sky unless I pay Sky £4 a month yes I can watch this Chanel in ordinary picture but that is not the point. It's a FREE to view Chanel ???????

Posted by a Superuser, not a Sky employee. Find out moreBBC1 & 2, and ITV are free to air in HD and no subscription is required. A subscription to Sky Movies includes the movie channels in HD.
So far as I can see there's no free to air HD version of U&Yesterday, so you would need the HD add-on to view it.

hi @P.J.D
Some of the channels are Free To Air in SD only but require a subscription including the HD add on to watch in HD .
As well as U&Yesterday, U&W is the same (both part of the UKTV group) - there may be some others

No idea
why if I have sky HD ?
Do you have the HD add-on pack? Having an HD box doesn't automatically give you access to all HD channels.
why should I pay Sky to watch it ?
You don't have to. Watch it in SD.

Channel owners can choose not to make their HD variant Free To Air: these have additional operating cost because there's more data to shift over the satellite link.

Load of rubbish Sky rip people off wth there prices. The cost of supplying free to air Chanel's are well covered in the price of there subscription

As explained several times, U&Yesterday HD isn't a free to air satellite channel
The sensible thing to do is cancel if you believe Sky doesn't offer value for money. You have to be out of contract, to do so, of course.

Operating costs of the channels themselves are not covered by their very small share of a Sky subscription.
The particular channel you are complaining about is not owned by Sky: it's a BBC Studios (non-Licence Fee-funded) outlet.
