Everytime I try to download anything from sky cinema or on demand i get a failed message in planner

and when I press the i button it says failed rec ---item unavailable, we have two sky+ boxes in different rooms and it is the same on both machines

Have you tried clearing out everything from your deleted folder before trying again ?
